About me

My drum learning began at 9 years old in a friends garage. I got about 10 lessons on some basic beats, and then I never stopped learning. My goal is to make percussion as exciting to you as it is to me, because I know anyone can do it with the right teacher.

Having experience in marching percussion gives me the means to be a great teacher. By breaking down concepts to their macro levels, enforcing good habits, and laying strong foundations, I am able to help students accelerate their learning and find their passion for music.

I also believe in diversity of learning. After teaching fundamentals, I like to educate about a variety of genres. Jazz, latin, funk, metal, reggae, and other styles of music all teach you something different about the instrument, which is the only way to truly understand the drum set and have control over your playing.

Alongside playing songs and certain genres, being able to improvise on the kit is also something I teach highly. Once someone has a strong understanding of beats and grooves, being able to freely move around the drum set is the next level of maturity and comprehension. Because of this, I have broken down methods to make improvisation structured and purposeful, rather than just picking it up on the fly.

Again, it is my firm belief that every single person is capable of becoming a great musician. The only non-negotiable is practice, and even then, 10 minutes a day can get you anywhere.
